The three platforms in one paragraph each
Blinkit is run by Eternal, the company formerly known as Zomato. Zepto is an independent quick commerce company. Swiggy Instamart is the quick commerce arm of Swiggy. All three operate a network of dark stores that serve nearby customers, and all three decide which brands and products to stock. In addition to these, BigBasket and Flipkart Minutes also offer fast delivery, which are worth considering as your range grows.
From a brand's point of view they look similar from the outside: catalogue, brand portal, ads and replenishment. The differences show up in your category, the cities you want to serve and the commercial agreement. Those details change over time, so treat any comparison as a starting point and confirm current terms directly with each platform.
What actually differs for a brand
Instead of looking for a universal winner, compare the following factors for your own product. Each can tip the decision differently for a snack brand than for a skincare brand.
- Cities and areas covered today and planned, compared with where you can supply
- How open the platform is to your category and price band
- Commercial terms: margin, schemes, payment cycle and any listing or visibility fees
- Supply route: which warehouse receives stock, and how replenishment is scheduled
- Advertising tools available to a new brand and what a small budget can achieve
- Reporting available to you: sales, availability and search data
How to decide with your own numbers
Begin with your contribution margin on each platform, not the headline margin. Take your landed cost, packaging, freight to the warehouse, any scheme you fund, and the platform's margin, and see what remains per unit. A platform that lists you in more cities may still be worse if the terms leave you with a thin margin you cannot sustain.
Next, look at supply. Quick commerce punishes stock-outs. If you can only supply a certain number of cases a week, pick the platform and cities where that supply gives you stable availability, instead of the platform with the most stores on paper. A smaller, steady presence beats a large, patchy one.
Start with one or two, not all
New brands often apply to every platform at once, thinking more listings means more sales. In practice it splits limited stock across channels and stretches your attention. A more reliable plan is to choose one or two platforms where your category fits, go live in a small number of cities, watch availability and sell-through for a few weeks and then widen.
That approach also gives you real data for the next negotiation. You will know your sell-through, your return and damage rate and how ads behave, which makes later discussions about terms and visibility more concrete.
Category examples (illustrative, not rules)
Packaged snacks and beverages tend to move quickly and depend on strong availability. Personal care and beauty may rely more on brand recognition and good images. Household and cleaning products may need clear pack-size choices. Electronics accessories and gifting depend on seasonal demand. These are patterns, not guarantees, and the right platform for your category can differ from one quarter to the next.
Preparing so that any platform says yes faster
Whichever platform you pick, the foundation is the same: GST and PAN, bank details, brand proof, FSSAI where needed, barcodes, a consistent MRP and a clean catalogue sheet with images that show the label. If these are ready, applying to a second platform later takes far less effort. Our onboarding checklist and the MRP and label guide cover the details.
When it is better to wait
If you cannot replenish stock within the platform's expected schedule, or if your product has no barcode, or the pack label has missing declarations, waiting a few weeks to fix those is better than applying and being rejected. Fixing first also avoids a poor first impression with a category team that may remember a messy first order.
