MRP and compliance checklist for selling on quick commerce platforms

Before listing on quick commerce, check that every pack shows the mandatory declarations: product name, net quantity, MRP inclusive of taxes, manufacturer or packer details, date information, consumer care details and country of origin. Food needs FSSAI details. Add barcodes, matching catalogue data and clear photographs. Platforms may add their own requirements.

Why labels decide whether you get listed

Quick commerce shoppers see a small product image and a short description, and the platform depends on that data being correct for thousands of products. If your label, MRP or barcode does not match the catalogue, the product can be blocked or removed. Getting these right is cheaper than reprinting a large batch of packs after rejection.

This checklist summarises common requirements. It is not legal advice, and rules and platform policies change, so confirm against the current regulations and the platform's own category guidelines.

Mandatory pack declarations

Packaged goods sold in India are generally expected to carry certain declarations under the packaged commodities rules, with specific requirements for food. Check that each item below is present, legible and consistent with your catalogue.

  • Name of the product or commodity
  • Name and address of the manufacturer, packer or importer
  • Net quantity, in standard units
  • Maximum retail price (MRP), stated as inclusive of all taxes
  • Month and year of manufacture or packing, and expiry or best-before where applicable
  • Consumer care details such as a contact number or email
  • Country of origin, for imported products

Additional requirements for food and beverages

Food products are covered by food safety rules. Packs typically need a valid FSSAI licence or registration number, a clear ingredient list, nutrition information, a vegetarian or non-vegetarian mark where applicable, allergen information and storage instructions. Platforms may also look at the remaining shelf life when a delivery arrives, so tell your category team what shelf life you can offer.

  • FSSAI licence number shown on the pack, with the logo
  • Ingredients in descending order and nutrition information
  • Vegetarian or non-vegetarian mark
  • Allergen and storage information
  • Batch or lot number and date details

Barcodes and catalogue data

Each product and each pack size usually needs its own barcode. Keep a master sheet with the product name, pack size, barcode, MRP, GST rate and HSN code, and use it for every platform. Two products sharing a barcode, or a catalogue MRP that differs from the pack, are among the most common reasons for blocked uploads.

Make sure variants are clear. If you sell a 100 g and a 250 g pack, they should have different names, barcodes and images, so the platform and customers can tell them apart.

Images and product information

A good listing image shows the front of the pack clearly on a clean background. Add images that show the back of the pack with declarations readable, since platforms often use them to verify details. Keep file sizes and resolutions within the platform's guidelines, and avoid claims on images that you cannot support, such as certifications you do not hold.

Business documents platforms usually ask for

Alongside the pack, platforms verify the business. Keep the following ready in one folder, and check that names and addresses agree.

  • GST registration certificate and PAN
  • Bank details or cancelled cheque
  • Trademark proof or brand authorisation for branded products
  • FSSAI licence for food products
  • Invoices and a price list showing MRP and base price

A simple pre-submission test

Take one physical pack and compare it with your catalogue sheet, line by line. Read the MRP, net quantity, dates and manufacturer details on the pack and then in the sheet. Check the barcode scans and matches the sheet. Look at your front and back images and confirm the label is readable at a small size. If anything differs, fix it before you submit. This ten-minute check prevents many rejections.
